Lately I've been thinking of a "what if" in regards to the Imperial line...

Chrysler had the Renault Premier "forced" upon them, and they disregarded it entirely, only shoving Premiers and Monacos onto dealer lots to meet that obligation portion of their contract, having taken over AMC.

If Chrysler had paid attention to what they actually had: a modern 4-door sedan that was much larger, more luxurious and had a far superior ride to anything else in their lineup. Compared to the Premier/Monaco, the Imperial was a fucking joke.

I wish someone at Chrysler had had the wherewithal to take the Premier, luxe it up even more, put Imperial-esque styling on it, and it would have been a legit luxury cruiser. Hopefully they would have managed to source a better drivetrain, though.

Though, admittedly, they *did* eventually do something similar, when they used the Premier platform as the "starting point" for the LH cars... and the LHS was truly a superb luxury sedan, if only its build quality could have kept pace. But, even then, the Monaco still had a better ride-quality.
