#1, A [now-failed] EV startup named Phoenix Motorcars imported a whole batch of Ssangyong Actyons as "gliders" (no VIN-number or drivetrain) with the intent of installing an EV drivetrain and selling them as the "Phoenix SUT".

When Phoenix went under, all the gliders were stored in a Texas warehouse. Unsure of the legality, but some have bought up some of the gliders and installed normal domestic ICE drivetrains into them.

I remember seeing one of these at the SF auto show some years back. I assume it was the upstart DiRF is talking about. I think I posted it here but it didn't survive the Great Photobucket Pogrom.
