So, I was out $50 in groceries, and one round of .45 ACP.... but I had at least one thing going for me, well, two actually. First, I figured I had at least a couple hours or so before my nemesis realized that his triggerman was now a corpse, instead of me. Second, I had a name.

Not for my assailant, currently congealing in my broom closet. He was least was smart enough to not bring a wallet to the job, but not his keys. Took a couple minutes of trying, but, the ones I fished out of his trousers eventually unlocked a no-frills Jeep Cherokee parked around the corner. White, clean, and as sterile as a fleet vehicle could be. According to the papers in the glovebox, it was owned by Integrated Security.

Figures. Budget Rent-a-Cops, all muscle, no brain, and prior felonies on just about every one of their goons. They keep docket at the court full of civil cases, that's for sure. It also happens that they provide mooks for Pier 29...

Around here, you're lucky to see more than $1,500 for anything that old.... he's happy because he was expecting scrap value.

Guy I work with just (sadly) totaled his 93'-ish Toyota Pickup, which was an immaculate rust-free South Carolina truck, he was expecting a pittance from insurance, the adjustor appraised it at $5,000......

And here, circa 1991, we have down-on-his-luck Private Investigator Randy Taggart returning to his barely-functioning office above Mr. Zhou's shop after running out of leads on his latest going-nowhere case, looking into the death of some Joe-Schmoe longshoreman in a work accident for which his widow turned down a generous life insurance payout because it stipulated she couldn't challenge the findings of the coroner who never even did an autopsy... Little does he know he's about to survive a botched murder attempt that will blow things wide open....

You either find ones about to collapse from rust, or were turned inside-out by the tuner/ricer crowd in the early 00's and would cost a fortune to put back right even though, technically, it still runs and drives.

While I'd never say no to one, the last of the Rancheros had some seriously ugly, well, BLOAT going on... just not pleasing in the slightest. At least the last El Caminos went out looking proportionally correct.

Never recovered from that time they decided to use recycled Soviet tanks to make the body panels and skimp on the rustcoating...
