Done with First Stage. Updated my profile picture with a delightfully weird random image from the show (I actually paused it at that scene by chance....thought it was too good not to save).

#142, Ja, the fansubs of Initial D can be quite comically bad sometimes...

#143, The site I get them from (crunchyroll.com) has mostly fansubs by the same person, but two or three mixed in are done by someone else, and there are a few discrepancies....like Mako offering her virginity as a favor was translated to her hand in marriage in one episode.

In other news, just for the hell of it, I set up a DVD Aficionado profile... http://dirf.dvdaf.com/owned/current-anime-dvds

Ok... watched a fansubbed camrip of the first Rebuild of Evangelion movie... it was quite good... amazingly good quality camrip... and the movie was excellent. It wasn't quite as *different* from the TV series as I was hoping, but it being in widescreen, and it expanding some scenes, whilst skipping over others, was done very well.

My collection as it stands now... I moved it from my really old bookshelf to the one closer to my computer...
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/animecollection.jpg

Missing:
- Gunslinger Girl (3 DVDs)
- Midori Days (3 DVD thinpack)
- New Fist of the North Star (1 DVD)
- Perfect Blue (1 DVD)
Those four are on loan to a Rideroom member up north.
- Wolf's Rain (7 DVDs)
- Slayers Movie box (5 DVD thinpack)
- Slayers Season 1 (4 DVD thinpack)
Those three are ones I'm considering selling in the near future, Slayers Season 1 is pretty much already sold to a friend.
- Naruto Shadow Box (manga vols 1-27) because it has its own mini-bookshelf to hold all of the books.

Guess an update is in order...

Gunslinger Girl This one caught me off-guard. I was not expecting something that good. The OP is amazing, and the show itself is worthy of an OP that good. I loved it.

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water Halfway through it (20 of 39 episodes), and it's very enjoyable, but it's dragging on a bit. One episode did have some excellent Anno-mental-anguish.

Megazone 23 Really old-school Anime, really freaking '80stastic. It's kinda annoying that each part has completely different styles of animation, and the third part doesn't even have any of the original characters, save for one (and the third part obviously had a truncated animation budget, some scenes were only half-animated). But I immensely enjoyed it.

Ushio & Tora What on the surface is a generic "monster of the week/beat-em up" shonen Anime is actually quite hilarious and fun to watch, it was also much bloodier and graphic than I was expecting in a couple of the episodes... but the "Comically Deformed Theater" bonus episodes are a riot. Great icing on the cake.

#148, I saw the first three or four episodes of Nadia; the first disc came as a pack-in with something else I ordered from ADV a while back. I can't really say that I was very interested in seeing more; in fact, I think I got bored with it before I finished the first disc.

I found the English dub particularly excruciating.

#149, Yeah, ADV tends to send out first-discs for free with various orders... I have the first disc of Aura Battler Dunbine... really have no intent to ever watch it though...

#150, I think they sent me a Saiyuki OVA once. I found that rather tedious.

I don't know what the actual series is like, but the OVA struck me as something like Weiss Kreuz, but with even more suck.

RightStuf actually sent me a freebie once also, a disc-only of Spiral vol. 1... damn them.

The first disc of Spiral makes it look like it's an amazing series that is really going to go somewhere... it isn't, and it doesn't. Sold the boxset I had bought of the series the moment I finished the final episode.

[edit] In other news, I'm heading out to MegaCon this weekend, again... will snap plenty of pics, and I'm looking to snatch up some freebie demo DVDs of Anime series...

#152, I can't say that I've ever actually tried to get rid of any series that I've bought. I guess this would either mean that I buy stuff that I know I'll like, or that my taste is...inexecrable.

Considering some of the series I've enjoyed most, the latter probably shouldn't be ruled out.

DVDs sold? *cough* http://dirf.dvdaf.com/have-seen/sold

Though, some of those are because I got the same series but in a different form, i.e., replacing a thinpack with a fully-loaded DVD set, or replacing an old set with a rerelease.

...and before you ask why Excel Saga imPerfect Collection isn't on that list, I rebought it, and DVDAF doesn't allow putting the same DVD set in different categories...

I [finally] finished Nadia - The Secret of Blue Water... the ending was fantastic, it's just a shame the whole series was dragged out so bloody long... and about 5-7 various episodes in the last half of the series were obviously farmed-out to a different animation studio, as the art and animation quality went to complete garbage at some points.

But overall, I was very pleased with the series, and not since The Lord of the Rings has there been such a definite "wrap-up" of the various storylines and characters in the epilogue. I loved that.

Haibane-Renmei Just a masterful 13-episode series. I was so taken aback by it, I wasn't expecting something that good. Very different series, unlike most things I've seen before.

Paranoia Agent It was very promising, then just turned ridiculous, in a bad way. Happy Family Planning was funny and thought-provoking, but its animation was obviously on a tight-budget... some of the other later episodes just felt like filler... and filler in a 13-episode series is just lame. But, I guess overall, it was good. Just not as good as I was hoping, being a fan of Satoshi Kon's other work.

#157, I'll give you exactly the same warning I gave to Adambomb about this thread. If you don't have anything worthwhile to contribute to it, don't post in this thread.

I can understand you trying to prod a reaction out of me by submitting images as thinly-veiled insults after I've taken some sort of moderator-action or reacted negatively about something, but don't mess up this thread. You will only get this one warning.
