In 1954, Air Force Col. John Stapp rode the sled to an astounding 632 miles an hour. When the sled hit the water trap at the end of the track, the only way to stop it, he was subjected to a brutal decleration of over 46 G's of force. He was probably the only human being in the world to be subjected to such force and survive it

#2, Believe it or not, even after that (the deceleration left him temporarily blind, as it caused a very traumatic redout) , Sapp wanted to try and break his old speed record, but the Air Force decided it was too much of a risk, so they promoted him to Major and told him to use chimpanzees from then on out...
