Although I'm not supposed to post in this thread, I think you should quit while you're behind.

I've gotten in a few arguments with DiRF but I just let it drop and moved on instead of throwing hissy fits. Got a little sand in your vagina eh?

#161, Every once in a while you post something coherent, and that post offered some good advice.

Well, I've now seen Grenadier... a favorite of the AMV Hell crowd due to her... *unique* reloading technique... anywho, it was actually much better than I was expecting, fanservice aside.

...and on another note, many place online I go, it seems I'm a person with a rather large DVD collection... then I decided to start posting on the AnimeOnDVD Forums... and I'm one of the small fish there, it seems. I've only filled four shelves with DVDs... some people there have filled whole walls with DVDs.

One of the more creative DVD packaging ideas I've seen... make it look like a Betamax tape!
http://photo.ricecop.com/pics/oh_no_beta.jpg

...and for people that haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, it's a cute reference to one of the episodes.

#165, That episode was also a very accurate history lesson in Beta vs. VHS.

#170, Well, I kept all the diecasts that represent cars that won championships in either Cup, Busch, or Truck Series, along with Daytona 500 winners and Rookie of the Year winners... and a few other odds and ends of big name drivers like Petty and Earnhardt.

Ok, well, I watched both seasons of Mahoromatic... it was a bit TOO fanservicy for my tastes, and I had heard that the ending was horrible and a lot of people hated it...

But really, I actually liked the ending. Admittedly, it was extremely UNBELIEVABLY dark compared to the rest of the series. I mean, damn, I was totally not expecting what happened, but I think that's one of the reasons I liked it. I think the ending saved the series for me, in my opinion. The way the plot is going on, a "happy" ending probably wouldn't have felt *right*...

#167, Oh yeah, I should probably note, comparing the main image of this thread, and that most recent shot of my collection, only 8 DVDs are the same. That being the 7 Cowboy Bebop DVDs, and the Magical Play DVD. You probably don't recognize the Magical Play DVD in the updated picture, because the coverart is double-sided, and I decided to go with the reverse cover recently. It's the right-most DVD on the 2nd-from-bottom shelf.

...The Azumanga Set was replaced with a better one, in terms of disc content, and the Battle Angel and Gunsmith Cats DVDs, I am ashamed to admit, were bootlegs... but I managed to secure legit copies of those DVDs, and got rid of the bootlegs.

5 Centimeters Per Second Very beautifully animated. Very well written and directed. Very bittersweet. I loved it.

#175, Tossed the boot to a friend in CT...and tossed the boot of Battle Angel to another guy.

...and yes, I do, in fact have Gunsmith Cats on my computer also, but my upload speed is slower than shit.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi It's very strange. It's very off-the-wall. It's a GAINAX series. That pretty much sums it up.

It's on OK series, but the penultimate episode *got* me... it was an episode where they were parodying all things Hollywood... Freddy, Jason, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Die Hard, Terminator, Robocop... and then, all of a sudden, the characters are travelling down a lonesome highway when a freaking dusty, dirty brown Peterbilt tanker truck appears behind them and tries running them off the road... holy shit. For an Anime to parody THAT piece of media of all things... that's even obscure for most Americans 0_0

Long time no update...

Wings of Honneamise and Aim for the Top!! GunBuster... Gainax's two first big projects. Beautifully animated... WoH was a bit scatterbrained in its execution, but still entertaining... GunBuster was just, WOW... the last episode was amazing. Otaku no Video was a later Gainax project, and pretty much thinly-disguised self-mockery of Gainax itself... but very entertaining... but the ending was just odd... the interspersed live-action "otaku" faux-interviews were even odder.

What I'm watching right now... second season of Haruhi Suzumiya... first episode was great... and then the now-infamous Endless Eight arc... where the animation studio took the title almost literally, stretching it out to 8 episodes that truly felt endless... the conclusion was nice, but it still would have been just as effective as a 3-episode arc... now they've just wasted 5 episodes that could have been used to cover other plot arcs of the series...

I say "wasted" because each season of Haruhi Suzumiya is limited to 14-episodes apiece... so there's only 5 episodes left in this season... and who knows if there will ever be a third season to cover more of the important, later parts of the series? Even if we're guaranteed a third season, it'll still take 3-5 years to happen, seeing the gap in years between the airing of the first and second seasons.

...I'm also watching Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, which is quite enthralling, IMO... set a few years from now, where two young siblings from Tokyo are visiting an outer-area of Tokyo when a massive earthquake strikes... the series is their attempts to get back home through a destroyed Tokyo, along with a female courier that they befriended along the way, whose home is near theirs.

I feel like writing something... so the next posts will simply be the past decade of Anime DVD licensors/distributors in America... from my perspective on what happened.

(For those unaware... the whole Anime DVD indsutry in America had a bubble mid-decade that popped in 2006, and it kinda imploded... way before the whole global economic meltdown...)
