You know, as much as I adore the 993 from a technical and aesthetic standpoint, if I could have any 911 in the world, it'd more than likely be one from the 997 generation. I feel that's when they finally "got a handle" on the new platform and liquid-cooled drivetrain, cleaned up the styling, and generally just refined everything very nicely.
The 991, not to mention the 992, have gotten a bit... pudgy... in appearance, the styling details are too finicky, and the cars have moved away from an "analog" feel, from what I've read.
DeMuro did a review of a 997 Targa, and I could just feel myself wanting that car so badly.

If I could have any 911, it would be the short-nose 1974-1989 version. Any variant, really, though a late-'70s/early '80s turbo in Arrow Blue with black leather and black Fuchs wheels would be absolute tits.
