Hard to see in the photo, but it has the red interior; this is the fourth car he's owned with the white-body/red-interior combo:

1964 Austin-Healey Sprite
1981 Chevrolet Corvette (which he still owns)
1990 Dodge Monaco

I believe that combo is his second favorite... first being dark-green-body/tan-interior.

I'm glad to see at least a few automakers still make red, blue, or green interiors.

Per my dad's request (since he's not coming down to FL any time soon), I've temporarily swapped my Mazda for this thing. (Since the CX-3 and 128i are within a couple inches of each other in both length and width, no concerns about either fitting in the other's garage spot)

This thing is so much fun to drive... yeah, it doesn't have the balls-to-the-wall nature of the twin turbo 35i, it still moves very well. The cruise control switchgear is confusing, though. It's on a stalk of similar size and shape to the turn-signal/high-beams stalk, and only a couple inches away from it... I've activated the high beams a number of times trying to set the cruise >_<

#4, Swapped the cars back... after speaking with my dad, he had the same issue with the cruise control. When I mentioned activating the high beams when trying to turn on cruise, he replied he's done that TONS of time with both the 128i and the X1.

...and if I thought driving my dad's Murano gave me second guesses about buying a CX-3 (i.e. maybe I should have bought a Kicks with all the Murano tech instead), I now have second guesses that maybe I should have bought a CPO 1-Series... damn, how much would I have loved to have a 135i coupe with the twin turbos and a sunroof... that would have been amazing.

#5, Until it breaks. Honestly, if you're looking for something fun, with decent torque under load and don't wanna spend a shitload.. I'd try a -15+ Civic with some minor upgrades.

#6, I did consider looking at a couple Civic coupes with sunroofs... but I'm really weird in that I don't really "feel" like wanting a "common" car. I like stuff a bit "off beat". The Sentra is the closest I ever got to "common"... and I hated it.

Well, once the paperwork goes through with the estate, I'll take over as owner of this car. It's a wonderful car, but that means the CX-3 will have to be parked outside now. Just have to remember to get the Mazda washed, including underflush, on a regular basis from here on out.

Do you still have this, and how is it?

#10, The estate attorney took FOREVER with the paperwork. It's funny you commented on it now, as I'm heading in to transfer the title later this week.

As odd as it may seem, I'm now thinking "L1708". L for my last name, and 1708 being the year my earliest ancestor with that last name arrived in America.

#14, Okay, but you have to wear Ray-Ban Tortuga aviators when you drive it.

I'm going with something else. L1708 is just too arbitrary. My weeaboo tendencies are leeching out again... I have a better idea what I want.

Title transferred. Insurance procured. Registered. Got a temp tag, the custom plate will be here in a month or so.

The car is officially mine.

This car is an absolute joy to drive. Also nice having a "full" convertible, rather than the "convertible" top on the Fiat which was more a sardine-can lid.

The suspension is incredibly compliant, not harsh (actually rides better than the CX-3), the engine and exhaust are beautifully sonorous, and the handling is so damn sharp. The interior is lovely, albeit, the seats are rather flat/unsupportive (that was intentional on my father's part; due to his large size, seats with bolsters were uncomfortable).

Cons:
- Fuel mileage is atrocious. It gets damn-near half the mileage the Mazda does. Also, there's something weird/wrong with the fuel filler; it keeps stopping the pump at every ½-¾ gallon. Makes filling it up a bit of a chore.
- The gas-pedal/acceleration are not as sharp as the handling. It feels a bit lackadaisical. Once the engine revs up, it really gets going, though.
- After having a backup sensor on the Fiat, and a rear camera on the CX-5, it feels odd backing this car up in a parking lot with neither. The blindspots when the top is up only exacerbate the situation.
- The radio display is polarized... the wrong way. With my sunglasses on, it looks like a blank screen >_<
- This car originally came with no spare tire/wheel. Either my dad or the previous owner bought one and put it in the trunk. There was no originally-designated place for a spare, so it just sits in the trunk... taking up over half the space.

The first con: the car apparently has bad O2 sensors and a bad EVAP valve in the fuel filler.
Second con: The car apparently is in need of a 60k service/tuneup.

Car is in the shop for all of that. My regular mechanic took a look a the car and said, "We don't touch those."

He recommended an import specialist shop two towns over. The import shop's lot had a litany of Bimmers, Mercs, Land Rovers and a Lotus. They ain't cheap, however. Thus is the experience of living with a used BMW.
