Traded the Genesis for this two days ago, but it's been a busy couple of days, so this has been the soonest I could get pictures.

#60, It gets better. It turns out the reason why the offer is so low is because the car has a state-branded title...due to five claims against hail damage since 2017. Three of those claims have been since I've purchased the car, even though I've never made a claim on it before, something that Geico's own records (going back to 11/27/2018) have verified.
Geico has told me that's a red flag for fraud, and they're opening it up to their Insurance Fraud Division. |

#62, Turns out that there actually aren't five claims of hail damage, just five alerts on Carfax, because Carfax issues a new alert every time the registration is renewed, and my claims adjuster is a fucking moron.
However, there was a legitimate hail claim, from May of 2017. Meaning the car was sold to me with a branded title, without that being disclosed to me.
I met with an attorney today, and I'm beginning legal proceedings against the dealer. |

#65, The state admitted that they made an error, and my car was actually never hail damaged. The state in turn issued a corrected title for the car....AFTER I got my substandard payout from the insurance company. Right now I've got an attorney going after the insurance company, citing the "mutual mistake" rule in contract law.
I'm mostly driving my mother's 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 at the moment. |

#66, Seems to be settled now. Geico is sending me a check for everything I owe on the car, plus around $700. Whatever I end up getting next, I'll most likely trade the Miata for it and be down to one car. |

Over the next couple of weeks, I'm going to start seriously car shopping.
A few criteria (some more flexible than others).
- Under 50,000 miles.
- 2014 or newer (I'd like to go even older, but I can't get anything that old financed).
- Manual transmission.
- Any color other than gray, silver, or white (I'd like to be able to find it in a parking lot).
- Should be somewhere in Mississippi, so I don't have to pay an out-of-state sales tax. |

#68, Forgot one: Max price $25,000.
A few top contenders:
Toyota 86 (or similar)
Pro: Test drove a 2021 not too long ago, genuinely loved it. Pretty much everything I want.
Con: Tough to find one in my price range.
Ford Mustang EcoBoost
Pro: Impressive specs, looks good, right price range for a used one.
Con: Tough to find with a manual, tougher to find one that isn't silver or grey.
Mazda 3 or 6
Pro: Nice prices, nice styling, lots or parts shared with that MX5 I rented and enjoyed, a few around with manuals.
Con: The closet Mazda dealer is in Jackson, which makes service a pain.
Volkswagen Golf or Jetta
Pro: Looks good in and out, nice color choice, plenty of manuals.
Con: Uncertain reliability, and the nearest dealer is in Jackson again.
Nissan Juke Nismo
Pro: Nice specs, Nismo cachet, seems practical.
Con: Just LOOK at the damn thing.
Honda Civic Si
Pro: The last word in sporty, practical, reliable.
Con: Slightly on the expensive side. |

#69,
Hyundai Veloster Turbo
Pro: Similar to what I had, I've always liked them.
Con: Bad experience with the local Hyundai dealer.
Toyota Corolla XSE
Pro: Nice colors, proven reliability.
Con: Somewhat dated; the local Hyundai dealer is also the local Toyota dealer.
Subaru Imprezza
Pro: Well-built, reliable, even the base model has some oomph.
Con: Jackson again.
Ford Focus ST
Pro: Several have popped up in my searches, look pretty cool and have some nice features.
Con: The newest ones are getting a little long in the tooth, most of the ones I've seen seem to be beaten on a bit.
These are just a few of the vehicles that keep popping up. I'm open to suggestions. |

Adding:
Kia Forte GT
Pro: Very similar to the Elantra.
Con: The only manual equipped version I can find anywhere is godawful grey.
Jeep Renegade
Pro: Lots available, interesting colors and packages, I like the styling.
Con: Fiat reliability, the manual versions tend to be white or silver strippers.
Chevy Camaro LT
Pro: See Mustang EcoBoost
Con: I have not heard good things about the current GM turbo 4. |

#71, Out of the cars you listed, a Forte GT seems best IMO. Reliability is good, power is good, decent driving dynamics. Unfortunately, most of the manuals are grey, like you said. I would be worried about modern VWs, though. I am also skepitcal of the Jeep too, given FCA's track record. Have you thought of (and this sounds really odd), but a Mitsubishi Mirage. Throw some stickier tires on it, lower it a bit, and have at it in an autocross course. |

#73, Honestly, if I were looking for a hatchback that tiny, I'd sooner go for a Chevy Spark or a Nissan Versa Note over a Mirage. |

Going to Jackson to look at a 2015 Camaro with a V6 and a six speed tomorrow. I'm actually pretty excited about it. |
