I know it wasn't perfect by any means, but it still kills me that Chrysler FINALLY had a decently competitive compact sedan... at exactly the moment sedan sales cratered. (I have similar feelings about the Chrysler 200 of the same era)

Hell, with us getting the EU-market Focus again, and GMDAT's supremely adequate Cruze (including a hatch!)… the domestic manufacturers all finally had non-embarrassing compact cars. Then the crossover movement finally reached its zenith and buried the sedan segment.

#1, I think part of that is blamed on Trump's ignorance in the car industry and threatening tariffs to the point of people pulling out small sedans in fear of large taxes on them. I also blame car dealers themselves for being extremely willfully ignorant of globalization in the automotive industry.

I honestly don't think politics had one damned thing to do with the general collapse of the sedan market... I just think it was a drastic shift in mainstream automotive consumer trends and preferences.

#3, That's fair. I guess the main thing I was thinking of is that part of the big thing for Ford was that Trump was whining about the sedans not being made here. I know part of the reason GM got rid of everything was because of pressure from TrumpCo.
