The Japanese seem to reject import cars in RHD, for some reason. Given the choice, they want them in LHD, apparently because LHD has "import cachet" to them...even in cheaper cars. Although Minis and Volkswagens seem to be immune to this phenomenon.
In any case, Japan is actually pretty accommodating to LHD cars.
