Description:
Ford 427 concept.

I saw one of these up close, these pictures don't do the car justice.

The only thing I don't like, is that the doors come up just above your shoulder.

Just a little bit of news... the replacement for the Ford Taurus, which will be named "Ford Fusion" will borrow much of its looks from this concept. The Fusion will also be the car used by Ford as the basis for their Nascar racer. IIRC, the Fusion will replace the Taurus as a 2006 model, which will also be the first year that the Fusion races in Nascar.

The Fusion will be on the same platform as the upcoming Lincoln Zephyr, and this platform is based on the Mazda 6's platform. Mercury will also be getting a version, but its name escapes me right now. The Ford version WAS supposed to be called "Futura", but Ford had sold the rights to that name to Pep Boys, and Pep Boys won't let them have it back.

In 2006, the Taurus will probably still be available, but probably only as a fleet vehicle, a la the Chevy Lumina in 2000-2002.

#2, I thought the 500 was the Taurus replacement? Guess not.

#4, The 500 is a LARGE car, Ford still needs a midsize. If anything, the 500 is more like a replacement for the Crown Victoria, albeit, they aren't out-and-out saying that, and the Crown Vic is still going to be in production.

#5, I thought the Vic was eventually only going to be made for police, taxi, fleet stuff

#6, ...and that will probably happen. But Ford still needs a competitive large car for the non-fleet market, so that's what the 500 is for.

I'm sure the Crown Vic will be made as long as police and taxi services still buy them.
