Description:
1965: NASCAR bans the use of the Hemi engine in racing competition. Richard Petty and his Plymouth-factory-backed team protest this ban and boycott the '65 season.

So what does Richard and his Plymouth team do? They go professional drag racing in a Plymouth Barracuda, called "43 Jr.", and nicknamed "Outlawed".

In '66, NASCAR relented, removed the ban, and Richard came back.

Apparently, during his 1965 stint drag racing, Richard Petty lost control of the car one time, and it careened into the stands, killing a kid :(

From what I've read, Richard still has nightmares about that.
