#1, Makes one wonder why there's that much headroom, considering the rear passengers were pretty much guaranteed to be lying down.

#2, Well, if it would be required to double as an ambulance, you'd need room for the medical technicians to move around in the back... and I would think sometimes loading a coffin would necessitate someone in the back to help guide it.
