Description:
Peugeot 405 MI16x4
A rare beast. 405 with a 16 valve version of 205 GTi engine and AWD drive train. It featured a hydropneumatic rear suspension and the whole thing was pretty advanced: the engine block was used in 206 WRC and parts of the drive train in 307 WRC.
This one was customised with front hydropneumatic suspension from Citroen BX and awaits a new caged body shell |

Actually, the engine block of the 206 WRC came from 405 T16, which was basically this but turbocharged. Only 1000 were made. If only Peugeot went ahead and homologated the damn thing... who knows, maybe STi and Evos would never come to pass or would quickly die like the AWD turbo Toyotas, Mazdas and Nissans. Stripped and caged this thing weighs 920kg compared to 1200kg+ of the STi/Evo.
