Well, the HAZMAT placard on the grille indicates the code for fuel oil (1993, there would have been a red "3" above that that indicates flammable liquid, but it's bleached away) So, maybe that has something to do with the rather impressive body warp? :) |

If I had to guess, I'd say something very large struck it on the passenger's side, just at the back of the cab. The driver's door and hood probably came off altogether, which is most likely how they got bent so severely but the surrounding sheetmetal didn't. |

#2, Actually, the damage is totally inconsistent with a wreck, it was most likely damaged because a forklift/front end loader was used to move it around, you can pick up a truck by just putting the prongs of a piece of heavy equipment through the windows of the cab, but it will ruin the surrounding metal when you pick it up because it can't support the load without bending. The doors were probably crushed when they put it down and kept trying to go "down" even when the truck bottomed out. The hood was probably squashed because something heavy was put on it at some point... |

#3, Okay, I'll buy that. I wonder how it ended up the yard in the first place, for them to be so careless with it, though. |

#4, Probably something trivial, maybe bed corrosion, that did in a lot of otherwise running trucks of this era. But, once it gets to the yard, all bets are off because then it's a "not my property" situation where if you have to move it, priority goes to moving it, not preventing damage to it. Looking at that hood again, the way it's pressed down OVER the contour of the motor tells me that another vehicle was stacked on top, and the wheels were put directly on that part. Looking closer at the tops of the doors, you can see paint scrape going perpendicular to the front-back line of the truck when the prongs were slid out.... forklift job for sure. |
