Whenever I see these in traffic now, it dawns on me that Toyota absolutely nailed the styling. In person, the aesthetics and proportions just work very well. When many retro designs go so horribly, horribly wrong, this one is rather handsome.

Agreed. I've liked this from the getgo; have you seen the new Ssangyong SUV that's stylistically the successor to these?

#2, The XAV? The styling's a tad fussy. There's no overall design... just a bunch of little details with filler swoops and creases in between... too many car designs are like that lately.

#3, Yeah. I actually like the XAV :( And I do agree with your sentiments, however, I do like the modern crop of Hyundai. If there's one design element I dislike, its the hexagonal grille/fascia. Hyundai, Ford Taurus, Subaru Legacy, Audi, they all look awful. But that's just my two cents.
