All things considered, they did as well as they could with performance upgrades in these: 8.5 inch rear with 3.73:1 gear, dual snorkel air cleaner, and LG8 307 V8 with the hotter flat-tappet (1985) or roller (1986-1987) cam, richer carb adjustments, and swirl-port heads.

180 horsepower doesn't sound like much now, but it made them pretty hot for that dark era.

Considering that my Pontiac 6000 STE 2.8L V6 made 130-135 hp at the same time and was touted as one of the great enthusiast cars of the year, 180 ain't bad.
I'm not afraid to say that the Regal and Cutlass are my favorite G-body coupes.
