It's rather transparent that they were cribbing the rear end styling of the Lincoln Continental... bit of a shortcut to "modernize" an older car...

The front was also a bit of a rip-off of Mercedes-Benzes of the era. But done very nicely.

The styling got progressively worse on Studebaker coupes following the gorgeous 1953-1954s, but I'd still rock one of these. Especially a rare 4-speed version.
