The only reason you don't see more rusty sprinters is they all went to the scrapheap about 2 years ago, and, as contractors/commercial sales were their primary market, and word got around, nobody was willing to give them a chance at a second generation.

#4, I have found precisely *one* image of when my local Sheriff's Office (former employer) used a Sprinter for inmate transport... aside from that it's all Econolines and (just about the time I left) high-roof transits... probably doesn't hurt that Ford became the first van manufacturer in America to offer factory-built inmate/prisoner transport vans (rather than going through a third-party upfitter)
