So... have had the car back for a couple of weeks now, and the tune-up and sensor/valve replacement have done the trick. It is just sooooo nice to drive. Even for short jaunts. The Mazda is staying in storage for the time being, and I don't really have the urge to ride the motorcycle. The Bimmer just rides smooth, the engine sings and has plenty of gumption, the interior is a very nice place to be, and I've reorganized the trunk a bit to make it more usable. And, of course, dropping the top is an absolute treat. Nice having a true convertible rather than the glorified tincan lid that was the Fiat.

Yes, I'm sure something else expensive will go wrong with the car (the driver's window is a bit glitchy), but I'll enjoy the heck out of this car until that happens.

#21, Two solid months with this car, and I've since swapped back to the Mazda, with the BMW now in storage... and now I can adequately compare the two…

The Mazda has a surprisingly nice interior; the BMW's is nicer.
The Mazda has decent power and accelerates briskly; the BMW is faster.
The Mazda handles very well for a small FWD SUV; the BMW handles wayyyy better.
The Mazda has an adequate ride quality; the BMW rides far smoother.

The BMW, being a convertible, obviously has road noise enter the cabin rather easily; the Mazda somehow lets in more road noise. Though, admittedly, both are way quieter than the Fiat was.

The Mazda's infotainment is slow, glitchy, and badly programmed. But at least it has infotainment, which, when it works, is rather neat. The BMW obviously has an old-fashioned stereo. However, the BMW's radio gets far better radio reception, giving me a more wide-ranging choice of crystal clear stations. Better speakers, too.

I *sorely* miss the Mazda's backup camera when in the BMW. I've mentioned before, but lacking depth perception makes parking a chore. To be safer, I generally back into spots, to make leaving a breeze. The Mazda's cam makes backing-in a snap.

Two, huge, benefits of the Mazda over the BMW… I average 40mpg in the Mazda, and only 20 in the BMW… and, of course, the Mazda has far more usable seating and cargo-carrying capability.

The Mazda makes more practical sense, but the BMW just makes me happier when I drive it.

#8, Ah, sorry to hear that. Is it a manual?

#23, Automatic. Can't drive stick; at least, not in a car. Motorcycle sequential manual is not a problem for me.

I'm sure I could learn, have just never gotten around to it.

#24, after driving one(94 accord EX) daily for the better part of a year I can tell you that it's an overrated experience for a daily in a somewhat dense "bad side of town" environment mixed with sometimes sitting in traffic.

#25, Been stuck in traffic jams on the bike in the past. My clutch hand was WORE. OUT. after that. So, yeah, I'm perfectly content commuting in an automatic-transmission car.

Two things about this car... of all the cars ever registered in my name, it's the first one with more than four cylinders, and also the first one to weigh more than 2800lbs. I was about to say it was the first one that wasn't FWD, but realized I was forgetting the Crapi.

This also means I've never had a car registered in my name that had a V6 or V8.

(I'm being a bit specific with "registered in my name" as the Buick LeSabre inherited from my grandfather was technically mine, but it was never in my name and I never drove it)

#27, Really?

Thus far I've had three V8s, three 6 cylinders, and six 4 cylinders. And to date, the Elantra is the only one that wasn't RWD.

I've only had three cars but two of those are V6s and one 4cyl.

I joke that my friend has Blackjack because he owns a V8, a V6, a 4cyl and a 3cyl.

Holy crap, this car is a decade old now. I would say it doesn't "feel" old, but with it still having a CD player (which I still heavily use) and having no infotainment/backup camera screen, it certainly doesn't feel new.

Driving this car almost exclusively now. My mentality is to get all the "good" out of it before its age and the climate really start taking its toll. The Mazda will essentially stay "stored" until such time I need its utility.

If the Mazda MX-30 R-EV turns out to be a car worth owning, I may consider doing a dual-trade-in of both this and the CX-3. My storage arrangement for my "second" car won't last forever, and, beyond that, having to rent a garage is pretty damned pricey. Having just one car would be simpler, but it needs to be "worth it", so to speak.

Welp, this car has the same problem my Honda big twin does... it is a VERY relaxed cruiser, but due to having ample power to spare, it'll crest 100mph effortlessly... without me even realizing it.

I have to be more careful.

It also has the problem my mom's old SX4 had... an economy car-size fuel tank, without the economy car fuel mileage.

I can get, if I'm lucky, maybe 250 miles out of a topped-off tank. Generally I find myself filling up at the 200 mile mark.

However, every time I think I'm growing tired of it, I drive with the top down and floor that straight-6, and I ask myself why I would ever want to get rid of it.

As I've decided to keep the car, I will be investing to improve its driveability.

I went to a custom shop, inquiring about the ability of putting backup sensors on the car. (I like to back-in park, and the CX-3 has a rearview camera, and the Fiat and Mazda2 both had sensors… the BMW has neither)

I was informed, due to the strengthened frame of the convertible, it's much more difficult to properly install a backup sensor in the bumper. They asked why I don't just upgrade the radio to a videoscreen unit, which would then allow installation of a backup camera… I didn't even know that was an option for this car, and would actually be $200 cheaper than going the backup sensor route.

So, I've decided to go that direction. I'm sacrificing having a CD player, but perhaps it's time to finally move on from that technology. Besides, the radio's current display is polarized the opposite orientation of the sunglasses I normally wear, which makes the display impossible to read most of the time.

Backup camera installed, which makes pulling in and/or out of parking spots with this car soooo much easier and confidence-inspiring. Getting used to the new radio display; never used Android Auto before... seems really handy. At least I can read the damn thing with sunglasses on, now.

Also upgraded the worn out old BF Goodriches with a set of Michelin Pilot Sports... EVERYTHING feels better now. Handling, ride, braking... with those tires and the radio, the car feels 10 years newer.
