#19, He fits in an Encore, but not an enclave. He's a rather large chap, and, strangely enough, he fits easier in modern small vehicles than modern "large" vehicles... there's the unfortunate trend to "cocoon" the driver. However, in small vehicles, they push everything away from the driver to make it seem roomier, which works for him.

He fits in a BMW 1-Series, but not a 3 or 4-series. Ok, when I say he doesn't "fit", that's not completely true, he's just not comfortable with how tight everything is.

#20, He's definitely familiar with the concept of shifting an automatic into a lower gear... he used to tow a ~3000lb boat & trailer with his '90 Monaco... which was only rated for 1500lb. He would shift the slushbox into low gear on downslopes, to avoid using the brakes.

#21, If the Encore is too small on the outside for your dad’s taste, perhaps consider an Envision also.

#23, He tried an Envision as well. Like I said, the larger the vehicle, the less room there is for the driver. It's a fucking conundrum.

#24, Ford Ecosport! Problem solved! XD.

Actually, they're not that bad. I wonder about an E-Pace, though. But jesus, they're hideous.

#25, I always wanted an SUV with less rear seat headroom and leg room than my 2007 Focus. I sat in the back of an Ecosport at the dealer and the difference was noticeable. The Ecosport has all of 0.1 inch more than my ‘99 Regal.

Like I said, a conundrum... if you want a lot of interior space throughout the vehicle, the driver's compartment is squashed for absolutely no reason. The Suburban is possibly the worst offender.

Has he looked at the Nissan Rogue? They apparently have around 43 inches of front leg room, apparently at the expense of slightly cramped rear seats.

#28, It's not so much the length of the front leg room, but the width... it's not just that he's a rather large person, but he has extremely bad knees, and needs a lot of room to stretch them out.

Many modern cars have center consoles and thick door-cards that intrude into thigh/knee/shin room.

But, you mention the Rogue. My dad is quite fond of the Nissan Murano, and he fits in it... but the cost of a new one he finds a bit off-putting... sure it starts at $31k, but with a few option packages it can easilyl get to 40.

...only drove it briefly now, but it certainly drives and feels more like a car than an SUV... it's pretty much just a 3-series wagon with a tall roof.

Got it on the freeway, and, already going ~45mph on the on-ramp, I gave it only *half* throttle, and the thing felt like it reared-up, got a bit squirrelly, and just blasted off like a rocket. This thing is scary fast. ...and, like I said, that was only HALF throttle!

Yeah, these are pretty quick. Haven't driven a 35i but I did do a 28i when they came out. That was enough for me. I dunno. As an enthusiast, I should swoon over OMGPOWAR but I don't :( Is that bad?
