Description:
Heeding complaints that the Ranger was not truly a compact pickup, even stretching the "midsize" segment, Ford is working on a pickup even smaller, with the Maverick name.
It'll be based on the 4th-gen Focus' C2 unibody platform, shared with the Escape, Bronco Sport and Lincoln Corsair. |

Honestly, I'd like to see the return a true "compact" pickup. A 4 cylinder with 30+ mpg, body-on-frame construction with a separate bed, and an overall size closer to a Civic than a Silverado.
The high prices on used compact trucks shows there's still a market hungry for them: My sister got about $4500 trade-in on my old 2006 Ranger when she traded it on a new Soul a couple of months ago, and that truck (while running and driving fine) was pretty far from mint. |

#1, Well, it's not body-on-frame with a separate bed, but it will get 40+mpg, as the standard, entry-level version will be a hybrid, all for ~$20k base. Being on a modified Focus platform, it will indeed be closer in size to a Civic than a Silverado.
You know where I think this thing will sell like hotcakes? The fleet markets. So many fleets are attempting to go "green", and fleets that just "generally" use pickups don't have a need for a full-bore, rough-n-ready half-ton. For instance, I could see my employer replacing a large swath of their current fleet with some stripper-Mavericks in the next few years. |

#5, Yeah, I suspect this thing will sell really well. Especially with low-mileage 10-year old Rangers going for upwards of $20,000 now, there's clearly still a market for these things.
Personally, I'd go for the base model one of these, in Velocity Blue, with the optional non-hybrid 4 cylinder, and no options other than a spray-in bedliner and floor mats. It would be quite a bit of truck for ~$23k.

#13, If it were a serious hauler, I'd get his point, but it's an economical, light-duty pickup. It doesn't have to have an exact half-ton payload or anything, and it doesn't really matter if it's FWD. |
