Apparently, the first Toyota to run in NASCAR was a few years prior to this, in 1981, when Bill Collins, the owner of a Toyota dealer, entered a few races in a Celica.

However, the Dash Series (then known as the "International Sedan Series" despite still having mainly domestic cars in the field) was no stranger to Japanese cars, as Dean Combs won the 1980 championship in a Nissan 200SX... of which I can find no photos.
