Hmm...for one reason or another, I doubt that that's an actual SVT...I wonder why I
think that...

I hear that. I love my Thunderbird SC, but DAMN that car is a bitch to work on. Picture your normal, modern EFI V6, mounted the RIGHT way, in an average-sized engine bay. So far so good. Now throw a blower and a shitload of piping on top of all that. You have to take the engine halfway apart to do anything moderately serious. About the only things you can do without major work are change the oil and spark plugs.

In my car... spark plugs, 6 of them, 4 hour job through a dealer, costs you over $200 not including parts (plugs happen to cost me like $10/each). Granted I can do it in 20 minutes... that's still a little silly.

What do you have? I have to come up from the bottom of the engine to get at the spark plugs.

mmm...my car is awesome then. i could crawl inside my engine compartment and work on anything...of course that means i sacrifice A/C and don't have any of the smog crap my dad has...but boy does it make working on the car so much easier.

3000GT VR4... the front 3 are just take off the plug cover, like 8 little hex bolts. The rear 3 are - y pipe, intake manifold, egr pipe, bunch of random hoses... no major task but frightening as hell the first time. haha

'Course, the flip side of that problem with getting at anything is that the car hasn't broken down once in 94,000 miles. That's pretty good on ANY car, and especially on an SC, where the head gasket is used as an emergency pressure relief valve.

emergency pressure relief valve? How? Is it just a real thin gasket that blows easily upon too much pressure?

My car is over 100k... but the only things stock on it are the frame, wheels, most of the body and the seats. :-P

No, it doesn't blow easily. Actually, the original owner took off the heads and put on Mr. Gasket gaskets immediately after buying the car. It's just that with the supercharger blowing 12 PSI of boost, you get some nasty back pressures going, and if you're in it too much for too long, it can go. But if it does, it saved you a whole bunch of money by failing instead of something more expensive.

I kinda want an old (read - not the new one) Tbird SC... I don't know a ton about them but I like the style. Of course, add that to the list. :-)

Hey, the only things stock on my 'Stang are the body, the unibody, and the dash and front seats. The rest of the interior would be stock, except that the previous owner stored it in a barn for 9 years. Yes, it's a "found in a barn" car, except that this barn had mice. DAMN.

rather have a head gasket blow than crack the block or something worse...not that there is much worse than a cracked block...

Probably get more power out of an 86... plus it's just NEWER. As I recall, the HP ratings were basically identical between the 68 and the 86, but they changed the rating system somewhere along the line, so the 86 has more power.

throw on some TCP subframe connectors, their subframe cage deal, and the mustangs plus chassis strengthening kit and you're looking at one stiff stang.
