well as the story goes he scammed some dude out of $148,000. This guy bought a viper and gave the money and the car to John. John used the money to buy a house either in california or colorado. i've heard conflicting stories about that. the dude who bought the viper called henessey and asked about his car which john said "we need another 20 grand to expidite getting your parts." the guy sent a friend down to check on the car and it was sitting in a corner and John had sold the hood and wheels/tires. nothing was ever done to it and there was a big law suit but i don't know how it turned out. John had promised a 1000+ hp viper.

He isn't "0ld Sch0ol yO". I like street races like this, it's not like the races on the "kills" message boards and crap all over the internet.. When you win you know you win.

What an ass! Didn't Boyd Coddington get in trouble for something like that a while back?

I don't doubt that that would kill your business. If I give you money for a car, I damn well expect to get a car, and if I've heard stories that you do things like this, I'm not giving you any money. Bet Saleen and Callaway have gotten some business out of this.

Not related, but I remember hearing a story that back in the 60's, some rental car company in Florida (Maybe Hertz) bought some High-end Mustangs that had superfast engines in them (427) I think, my mustang history is crappy. They intended to lease them out to people who just wanted to know what it was like to drive a muscle car for a few days, but had to stop it because more than one was returned with the 427 yanked out and replaced with some useless 6cyl. Thats actualy kinda funny.......

hmmm...that's actually a pretty good way to get a cheap 427 i imagine...

It was Hertz, and the car was the Shelby GT350H. Beautiful cars. The engine was a Shelby-worked 289 Hi-Po. The cars were black with gold Le Mans stripes. I'll see if I can post a picture later. And yeah, I'd heard about that. Those cars are worth insane amounts now.

Once again I get schooled on the facts by the mustang master himself

gt350H...hot car. black with gold stripes looks pretty slick as well. 289 hi-po. was that the "K" code? put out something like 271. plus whatever magic Mr. Shelby worked.

#33, I think the early GT350s made 305 hp after Shelby was through with them, but I'm not certain.
