When you start fooling around with boost, you have to start reinforcing things all at once.

trust me I know all about high boost. My eclipse ran 22psi in street trim, and 25psi when i'd drag it.

the best pass I ever made with it was 11.98, which was on slicks. I could make 12.2 passes on street tires all day.

the only way you could tell it wasn't stock from the outside were the enkei rims, and a fart canister. I hate fart canisters, but they're also the only kind of performance exhaust you can get for imports.

that's why I loved that car. I could get away with 22psi on the stock bottom end, and when I got everything reinforced, i was running 25psi no big deal. try that on a mustang...

Istead of detonation we would have eruption and no hood left let alone the engine

it would last until you hit full boost, at which point your cylinder heads would take a jump out the hood.

if you're interested, this guy and I had basically the same set up.

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/archives/features/feature01_0901.shtml

I did have an AEM stand alone engine management system, which helped me work out the fuel map better, and some other different parts, but we had the same turbo.

aside from the computer, the only difference is the muffler and the fact that everything turbo related aside from the actual turbo was made by HKS.
