It's obviously a Subaru Justy. The odd thing would have to be its mismatch with the rest of the Subaru lineup--these things weren't AWD, were they? (I don't know)

No, the really odd thing is that some Justys (including this little box) were equipped with a CVT, continuously variable transmission.

#8, Any idea how their CVT mechanism worked? I mean, Nissan and Honda are starting to use CVTs now--how sophisticated was the Suby system?

#5, Well, I'll be darned:

"Subaru pioneered the modern production CVT with an ECVT (electronic CVT) on the 1989-93 Subaru Justy but, according to Subaru's Elaine Griffin, "We stopped selling (ECVT) because the Justy was an on-demand 4WD and we wanted to concentrate on full time all-wheel drive vehicles.” She also cites reliability issues and high maintenance costs for the old ECVT, though she says the technology has advanced substantially in the past three years and doesn't rule out Subaru returning to the CVT fold."

How could you ever get into a situation that requires 4WD--in a Justy?!

I think that it should be noted that I haven't seen this car move in almost a year. But it might still be operational, the guy (or girl) could have a different schedule from me.

#12, Or perhaps they have really questionable taste in yard ornaments. :-)

I always thought the weird thing about Justies was that such a small car was available with AWD.
