actually if you have ever watched just the locomotive itself accelerate, you would take that comment back, its amazing how fast something that big and heavy can get up to 60 mph

Actualy, the diesels in these don't drive the wheels directly, they turn generators that send electricity to traction motors, and the engines are installed inverted, the crank is at the top, and the pistons face the ground, so it's easier to swap out broken rods, worn bearings, etc.

Especialy since Force = Mass X Accelleration squared, with a mass of a couple THOUSAND TONS, even at a snails crawl of a pace, that's more than enough to flatten you
