They've grown on me. I still don't think I like them quite as much as the 300ZX, but they're not bad. And I happen to like Nissan. :-P |

The cosmetics on the G35 are somewhat more subdued, yes. I'd like the 350Z better if its taillights were more similar to those on the G35. |

Meh...the Zs have basically blown since the 1990 300ZX, IMO.
Good cell shade, though. |

I still love the sound of the 'VQ' engines. These are at least a step in the right direction--they're still no lightweights, but I believe they're less bulky than the last generation of 300ZX. |

#7, Weight wise they're okay, but they lack the sort of simplicity that made the original Zs so cool. Anything that comes standard with power windows and door locks and requires the buyer to get leather interior in order to have Brembo brake package isn't a real "budget sportscar", it's more like a "GT sportscar", and the Z has had that blasted GT image since 1990. It goes totally against the point of the original 240Z....a simple, cheap sports car that was only about performance. |

#8, Unfortunately, none of the Japanese sports cars (except the RX's and the lower-budget cars like Nissan's 240SX) have been about pure and simple performance since the early 90's. I mean, the last generation of Supras, the 3000GTs, the 300ZXs, and so on (even the higher-model Celicas of the arly 90's, really) were all GT-style cars. |

#9, And really, it's not just the Japanese, either--it's really rather hard to come up with viable examples of "pure sports cars" anymore. The closest I could think of would be the Mazda Miata, possibly the BMW Z-cars (although those are more luxury than anything) and the Lotus Elise and its relatives.
edit: And the Toyota MR2 Spider and Honda S2K. Forgot about those, but at any rate those cars all represent a very small market share.

The Neon SRT-4 could be considered a sports car in the traditional sense, but it's a four door and still comes with a few too many features standard. |

I don't think there is much of a market for a "pure sports car" any more. I know I'd rather have sports car attributes with amenities, a la the Corvette. |

#12, That's what manufacterers have been saying for years, but every time they release one it sells out the wazoo. The '70 240Z, the '79 RX-7, the '64 Mustang, the '90 Miata. There are a lot of people out there clamoring for a simple sports car (look at the strong public reaction to the Dodge Razor showcar), and I don't think the average person is as hung-up on gizmos as the companies think. Car companies still act like the average car per household is 1, when in fact almost no one owns just one car anymore. But they're still trying to make every car capable of doing everything....so every truck and sports car is too soft, and every luxury car is too sporty or utilitarian....as if it's going to be a daily driver. |

#14, Another good example. Something around 80,000 sold in the first year, IIRC, and even more in '69. |

To me, the perfect solution is more options. Just make a basic car with a low base price, and then offer several options so that the customer could have a sporty car, luxurious car, or both, much like the original Mustang (which I believe had a 3 page options list). But automakers aren't going to do that...they know whatever crap they unleash on the public will sell in acceptable numbers, because none of the other companies are making anything different and used cars just aren't an alternative. |

#13, In my case it will be my daily driver and I like gadgets. Of course I live in the South though so I don't need a winter beater. |

Work-in-progress: I've got a very simple gallery up thanks to a PHP script I found on the web. DNS still hasn't resolved, so I can't link to it directly through its domain name; hopefully that'll fix itself soon. I'll probably add some content (like maybe an actual main page!) over the next few days and try to make things look better.
