Reminds me of the 666 steam train from "Stay Tuned"...

There's still something primal about big 'ole locomotives... a feeling right in the pit of your gut that makes you want to growl...or maybe that's just me.

not sure who owns the tracks by my house. used to be Conrail. a couple of years ago I saw a Chessie System engine. I think they might still use some engines with Conrail on them. they want to make it a commuter rail

NOpe, Me too, you know, I actualy SAW this locomotive in real life. It spent time doing helper service up over the Horseshoe Curve, it was always running around with unit #6667, since helpers work in tandem, coupled at the rear so you don't have to turn them around, you just reverse direction and the trailing loco becomes the lead loco

BTW - this is a General Motors EMD SD40-2, with dynamic brakes, I've "driven" one of these in MS Train Simulator, it's pretty exciting to get some flat clear track and go higballing at about 55mph with a fully-loaded freight train...

#3, It would probably be CSX... CSX is a major railroad company that was formed by a 1980's merger of 3 railroad companies, Chessie System, Western Maryland, and The Seabord System, each of those companies in turn were amalgamations of smaller railroads that had been conglomerated in the 1960's as railroads were in decline due to airplane and truck freight competition.

Conrail stands for "Consolodated Rail Corporation" it was created by congress in 1976 as a way to save over a dozen northeast railroads from bankruptcy. In 1997, it was bought out and divided up. 50% went to CSX, the other 50% to Norfolk Southern
