I was thinking of putting one in my Acura, never really got around to looking into the wiring or the style of button due to lack of time.
I got time now, maybe something I'll look at again.

Does this mean anybody could just start up the car by simply pressing the button?

#2, You still need a key to start the car.

#2, The button simply provides the starting function. Or in other words, you put the key to the on position and then press the button to get the engine to turn over.

Is it really that hard to just turn a key to start the car?

start buttons are cool, but more so when you rig it up to not use a key

My plan was more of a security feature than just for the heck of it.
I would like to mount the start button behind the cigarette lighter in my car and leave a dummy starter wire running to the siren under the hood of the car.
Hense, some one jumps in the car, tries to hot wire it they wont get the car turning over, they'll just get a nice loud wail. In addition to this may be a set of peizo's inside the car for potential theives to listen to while they are in the car.
And yes, I do live in a very high auto theft area.

#11, Well I already have a hidden kill switch, not to mention a pager alarm with rolling codes and an imobilizer, so the switch would just be for that "cool factor". There is a perfect round blank switch right above the ignition switch on manual AW11s- in autos it's where the power/economy shift button is.

I had to do this on my old pickup, the ignition lock wore out, and no longer worked, and I didn't feel like opening up the steering column to fix it. So we rigged up a light switch, the kind from inside a house, on the dash that you flipped to "on" to start it, and then "off" to shut it off. About 6 months later, the turn signal switch wore out, so we opened the column and fixed both

#15, LOL, I used to say the same thing to her all the time. The funny thing is, it was one of the lighted ones!

#10, I thought you had posted the picture, and had originally said "Well, I was more questioning the automakers decision of pushbutton starters than yours". After I saw that thirtyseven had posted it, I changed it.

#18, If I'd said "I'm questioning your decision more than the automakers", that comment would work.
