I was bored...
In 2002 OMC (Orion Motor Corporation, Kingdom of Solar Gods http://www.nationstates.net/solar_gods biggest car manufacturer) purchased the rights to the Cheetah name. In 2003 the protorype was ready and in 2004 the car competed in FIA GT championship. It proved to be a potent racing machine, finishing the GT class at LeMans 24H 4th and the whole GT championship 2nd. The car was basically still a prototype and as such it wasn't an "official" factory car, it was fielded by Team Apep instead.
In 2005 OMC released a press statement that the Cheetah will go into production and be available to people with need for speed all over the world.
Since the beginning, the project was called a blasphemy by GM fans the world over. The reason was that the new Cheetah had much more to do with Ford than with GM.

#1, Drivetrain: longitudal engine at the front, transaxle rear wheel drive
Engine: Roush-Ford 7.0l quad cam V8, 700hp @ 7300rpm, MoTec/OMC EMS
Gearbox: X-Trac 6-speed sequential
Suspension: double wishbone, coil springs and anti roll bar front and rear, Ohlins shocks and springs
Brakes: Brembo Cheetah ventilated grooved and drilled disks front and rear, 6 pot calipers front, 4 pot calipers rear
Body: chromoly tube chassis, aluminium and carbon fibre body panels
Tires: Dunlop Cheetah slicks

The road car will be a bit different. The wing will be deleted but the front splitter and read diffuser will remain. Roofscoop and side vents in the front bumper will be deleted. It is still unknown if the car will retain it's side exit exhaust, and if it will, how it will look like. Of course, the windows and snap-on bodywork will also be modified to make the car road legal. The chromoly frame will remain the same, as will the engine although it will be tuned down to 500-550hp.

#2, The sequential gearbox will be replaced by a OMC 6-speed manual.

It is estmated that the cost of the car will be around 60-80.000 USD. The owners will have to face a car that is all but civilised. The car weights only 1200kg for a reason. Carbon fibre bucket seats with 4-point harnesses, spartan interior will have few to none luxuries, sound deadening will be almost non-existant and buying road legal tires will be a complicated matter: as of now, Dunlop Cheetah SP Sport tires haven't left the pre-testing stage and snow tires are in the pre-design phase.
Still, this is a small cost for a chance to drive a new Cheetah: probably the most rude supercar in the world.

I was very bored :)
