I don't know if Clarkson is stupid or just pretends to be. Want to drive across Africa? Just look around and see what locals drive. W123 240D and old French cars are probably the most popular. I think I'd go for a Renault 4 or someting similar. Old French econoboxes were built for African colonies, they have high and soft suspension to negotiate rough terrain, they are light, simple and surprisingly tough. Yeah, they are slow but so what, this isn't Kayalami Grand Prix. |

#1, Hate to break it to you - but Top Gear is scripted. I mean how stupid would Clarkson be if he actually thought that because a Lancia Beta had the same badge as the Lancia Stratos - that the Beta would perform as the Stratos?
I'm not saying they didn't drive across Botswana - it's just that when you're stranded on Makgadikgadi Pan (first time that word been typed on RON) in a Lancia Beta - you're not really stranded at all. A film crew and an edit suite can make Clarkson look like a poor doomed bastard just by shooting a shot of him from 1Km away.
I watch Top Gear as entertainment - which it does quite well. Things that the show passes off as having actually happened as a result of Clarkson and co's meddling - I question as if it was staged until I can be certain it wasn't. |

I actually saw this on BBC the other night....very entertaining. I was rooting for Hamster and "Oliver" the whole way...glad to see the little bugger made it without too much damage. |
