And this is what people think is an idealized Cadillac?

*shrugs* I love these... I'm not sure if I'd enjoy driving one, but I love looking at one.

Fuck it, I'd drive it. Especially if it's an LT1.

#6, You're free to your opinion, of course, but I'd take one of these over a Catera any day of the week. Mainly because I like a car that actually runs.

#6, This was not worse, by any measureable metric, to a rebadged budget-tier Vauxhall pretending it was equivelant to an Infiniti.

#8, Anything designed and marketed to be a handjob memory of the past aimed at pensioners is going to be a terrible product.

#8, I think you mean BMW. Didn't it "compete" with the 3 Series?

I do not like the disparaging remarks regarding this generation of Fleetwood.
I do not like the disparaging remarks regarding the Catera.

Both vehicles achieved and surpassed goals that GM had laid out in each car's respective development...

The Fleetwood was the last of the American land yachts. It had modern-ish drivetrain, an incredibly roomy, plush interior, and styling that, in my opinion, was the peak of boatish elegance for its era. Was it aimed at old farts? Of course it was... but it was still fucking awesome for what it was. It could have been bland rice pudding dressed up in fancy accoutrements, but Cadillac actually put a big effort into it.

The Catera was a reasonably refined luxury sports sedan that took a very respectable RWD premium sedan from Opel and tweaked it only minimally for America, retaining many of its positive world-influenced attributes. It paved the way for Cadillac redefining itself for the modern era to more capably compete in a changing market. Without it there would be no CTS... with no CTS, I firmly believe Cadillac would have ended up "withering on the vine", much like Lincoln is now.
