Description:
Wow. Here's a blast from the past... a long-time friend of the family gave us some old photos, including this one when they had visited my family up in PA back in 1989...

- 1973 Mercedes-Benz 220D
- 1974 Dodge club-cab pickup
- 1985 Dodge Ram wagon

I finally have a photo of that old van... lots of fond childhood memories of it.

The van was bought brand new from Sunshine Dodge-Isuzu in Melbourne, FL after trading in the busted-ass, broken-down '73 Catalina... it herded us up to PA in '88... herded us back to FL in '91... Finally traded it in at Kelley Ford in Melbourne for a brand new Aerostar in late '93.

Was the 150 Prospector package, complete with fold-flat 2nd and 3rd row seats, and a built-in picnic table... that we never used. The air-conditioning didn't work very long... I don't actually have a memory of it being operational... the radio was garbage, and the vinyl seats were like hell in the Florida summers... but it's the vehicle I spent most of my early childhood in. It holds a very special place in my heart.

The truck was... well... a beat-up old truck. Granted, it wasn't *that* old at the time, but it was still beat-to-shit. My father bought it when he moved to PA in '86... he felt he'd need a good 4wd vehicle for the winters... the original tailgate was long-gone, so it had a mesh airgate... I still remember the big vinyl bench seat it had up front, the seat in back was probably in the same place as the original tailgate for all we knew. I remember sitting in the center of the front seat, being told very specifically to NEVER touch the big, tempting lever sticking out of the floor. I later learned it was the 4wd transfer case lever. It was automatic, so my mother could drive it, but she hated it. Only vehicle with worse brakes in her opinion was her old Catalina's... and that's because the Catalina's brakes actually failed completely once.

The Mercedes...already explained the story behind that in 60398 Yes, it WAS light tan, but old photos have a way of having screwy colors.

This picture was taken about 12½ years before I joined Rice or Not.

It has been about 12½ years since I joined Rice or Not.

That's kinda freaking me out.

#8, Base model.

Green. SWB. The only options I seem to remember it having were cassette radio and air conditioning... everthing else was manual (locks, windows, etc), cloth seats...

Wait, now I seem to remember it having headphone jacks in the middle row (on the side of the van without a sliding door)

(Pretty much looked like this http://trialx.com/curetalk/wp-conte...tar_Cargo-1.jpg ...don't know why it's listed as a cargo van when it isn't)

#10, Yeah, I have to admit, I kinda liked 'em, too.

To hell with wheel covers with fake lugnuts.

#11, I also like the Probe 5 spoke hubcaps as well, and another favorite cap of mine is the Corsica/Cavalier three spoke, and Cavalier/Beretta 5 spoke.

Oh wow. I always assumed it had lace wheels. I've actually never seen the pictured style in person.

#14, I... don't know how you can tell from the resolution... I honestly can't remember the wheels it had on it. All I know is it wasn't the "Sport" trim level, whatever designation that had... it had solid headrests, not the "sporty" ones with holes in them. It also did not have a rear spoiler, it instead had the luggage rack with integrated 3rd brake light.

There were two trim levels for 1990 - ES and LE. ES was the sport model, which did indeed have lace wheels.

Just from that tiny resolution image, it's obvious that one is an LE, even without the additional information reinforcing it.
