Looks like a bunch of bullshit.
"Hey gang, let's take the current Prius, add those ugly headlights from the Nissan 370Z, and put a big ridge down the side of it! People will love it!" |

Front-quarter windows - why oh why are we cursed to have front-quarter windows?
(I know they are dictated by the windsheild rake and the position of the A-pillar relitive to the front-door hinges - which in turn are dictated by the location of the front wheels - but I fucking hate them!)

#4, It's true. Greenhouses are getting larger, while wheelbases are getting shorter due to automaker's bizarre insistance on no front or rear overhangs. If they stretched the door out to where it needs to be, they'd have to put a little hump for the wheelwell, like they do on back doors. |

#5, Not only would the aesthetics be challenged (if they weren't already) - but the area of the outward swing of the door would start to impeed ingress and egress. For instance - a 3rd gen may look infinetly cool as a coupe - but the long doors mean a more likely chance of contact with objects next to it when parked.
A long door also dictates the shape of the glass in the doors. If that front quarter window wasn't there - you'd have lenght of window that has to somehow fit inside a door of even greater lenght. But becasue of the position of the A-pillar - the rake - and the front wheel - you're left with a dead space that looks like an afterthought.
Same goes for the hump over the rear wheelwell you mentioned. That hump dictates the door shape - which dictates the surface area of glass that can fit into it (unless it's a child safety window) - which mean that tiny black triangle on the rear door glass is nessisary - which means the overall roof height over that door can be lowered. |

I still despise the 2nd gen. I hate the look of them, I hate what they represented at the time they were built, and despite there being two generations since then, I still associate that specific gen with greenie hipster douchebags. |

I rented one a few years back.
It was actually kinda fun and I felt gluttonous knowing I can drive anywhere and just use $5 worth of gas at the end. It was surprisingly roomy inside.
City driving was also faster than expected but the battery only mode was frightening.
Ultra slow. Leave it on normal or sport mode and its fine.
I seriously considering the later awd model as it checked a lot of boxes (500 mile range, AWD, tons of space, hatchback for hauling, cheaper than other cars). I just didn't want to make monthly payments on a pig looking prius. But if I had the choice, I'd rent one again without hesitation.
