Cool. I think Mercury had one, too. L'Attitude IIRC.

#1, Aye. The back-ends on these things (this and the L'Attitude)... they're extremely odd, but I have to say I *like* those backends... an integrated continental kit on a wagon... I think it works!

I guess Ford never figured this trend would catch on.

With a few minor tweaks, this could work as a modern design.

#4, Well, it had *already* caught on... the Outback had been around for 2-3 years by this point, and was enjoy very good sales... Ford was simply playing follow the leader with these concepts...

But I guess they figured they would have difficulty enticing Subaru fans... dress them up all you like, the Taurus/Sable would never have the pedigree nor reputation that the Legacy (and other Subaru sedans/wagons) already had, even before the Outback trim level came out.

It's an amusing concept in terms of execution, potentially a good idea that's trying way too hard for anyone to take it seriously. If they had played it straight and made an AWD Taurus wagon with higher ground clearance that more closely copied the Outback formula (no silly homemade-looking brush guards, truck mirrors and spade embedded in the door), they might have been able to pull it off.
