Aren't wheels sometimes engineered/built for a specific type of drivetrain? Like, a RWD car would put different stresses on its wheels than an AWD vehicle?

I think what you're referring to is offset and dish size. Yes, RWD cars and FWD cars (and AWD, too) sometimes share bolt patterns, and if you do have, say an AWD car or FWD car and want a deeper dish, just use rear wheels from a RWD car that are dished.
