I drove one of these. The auto mags love this value but it drove like a dog. Two tons w/ 355 hp isn't a uber fast ride. In the backseat, kids can play soccer back there. Leg room city. Since they're rare, the resale value is nice. |

#3, I think it's "Don't meet your heroes, especially if they're NFL players, the chance you may end up beaten, whipped bloody or shot and left dead in an industrial park is getting higher every day!" :P |

#3, I think the G8's are terribly oversold. As time goes on - the loudest cries I hear about the G8 are the insufferable self-styled "Pontiac Loyalists" who seem to proclaim the G8 as the best Pontiac since the original GTO.
Somehow - to them - the problem was always GM. Oh no - it was never the idea of an habitually unprofitable brand that offered little more than a comparable Chevrolet. No - it was GM and Obama for daring to kill "the excitement brand" - and that if the G8 was only offered with a 6spd - a hi-po block - and priced at about $16,000 - than Pontiac would still be around - and all those terrible things like CAFE and expensive gas and automated parking and automatic trannys would go away forever and it would be a new era of American muscle - in some contrived way not unlike what the Charger is doing.
"But no! GM screwed us over man! They'll be sorry! They'll be sorry they turned their backs on us Pontiac Loyalists! Dodge will come out with a 'performance on a budget' Charger - and I'll be one of the first to put my money down for one! Dodge is gonna sell soooooooooo many of them! GM will rue the day they listened to Obama and killed Pontiac!"
And then I ask them about the Chevy SS - effectively the same car with much better build quality.
"Naw man! Fuck that! It's a Chev! Chevy doesn't have excitement. Never had. Never will." |

Pontiac performance to me died when the 4th gen F-body was discontinued. From there, they were a badge division of Chevy. Every "performance" car, however good, was a hasty and transparent rebadge with no history or pedigree that were underpromoted, overpriced and had no hope in a weak economy and $4 a gallon premium gas. Market forces and car buying tastes put an end to a storied brand, that's it, it wasn't a greek tradgedy or some backroom deal to stick it to fanboys, they just didn't sell enough. End of story. |

#9, I wanted one BADLY as well and it was a "Never meet your hero" moment. I saw that James May segment with the Lamo Countach and I agreed with him.
G8 folks bash the SS mostly because of looks. Its a better car but looks are worse.
I listened to a Bob Luntz interview on Autoline detroit and he was going to turn Pontiac to a niche, performance division and produce cars like the G8 (which he loved) and the Solstice. Even with good sales, there was an agreement to ditch it probably because its not wise to have a niche division when you're going to be bankrupt.

#11, Couldn't agree more regarding the G3. They love Buick due to China sales. |
