From a stylistic standpoint, I quite like the Mustang II... from a performance and engineering standpoint... not so much...

#1, I like them too. The nice thing about a Mustang II is if it's smog exempt in your state you can go wild with it and make a small and light little car that can actually do great things. There's a local guy who tears up the autocross with a 2.3 turbo '74 Pinto. In California where I live, only the 1974-75 Mustang IIs are smog exempt because bureaucrats are idiots and refuse to relax the pre-1975 testing exemption to a rolling cutoff, while ever-tightening the regulations on anything newer.

The platform was pretty good (great for the time, actually), and while the 302 was hideously underpowered in factory guise, a credit card and a Summit catalog go a long way towards taking care of that. As I understand, the biggest issue with these are the tiny wheels and tiny wheelwells, necessitating some plasma cutting if you want to fit decent rolling stock. There's also the issue of the four lug spindles/axles limiting wheel and brake choices, though this issue is shared with the Fox-bodies.

#4, It may just be a skewed perspective, but the wheels on this look to be five spoke-styled, which, judging bolt placement, would mean this has five-lug wheels?

#5, They're 4-spoke pseudo-Magnum 500s, similar to the wheels on this one: http://www.mustangii.org/gallery/AllanKlingler/ Note that in the front quarter views, they sort of resemble five-spokes. Ford probably counted on that.
