The car was really a Ferrari replica built on a Corvette chassis. Same as Crockett's Daytona spyder from Miami Vice.

Okay, it's not a Corvette. According the Car Stars of Film and Television, it's a scratch built replica for a Ford 5 liter V8 in it.

In 1986, this was simply just a collectible older Ferrari that had just hit the 25-year mark... one that could legitimately be owned by any mid-range aficionado. Now it would be a museum piece under strict guard, insured for $10 million.

I mean in-universe, of course. I realize the one used in the film was a replica.
