Actually there's quite a few old furys, (Christine anyone) malibus, and whatnot around.

Yeah, but compare that to the amount of Mustangs, Torinos, Chevelles, Camaros, Chargers and Barracudas that survived.

"but have you ever tried to find a family car from the same era?"

They are all parked in front of rundown hillbilly trailor homes in bad movies and TV shows.

I know exactly what you're saying Mad Max. My dream is to have a mint condition '73 Country Squire wagon. But can I find one? NOOOOOO..... I'm not at a stage in my life where I can restore a car, I'd rather have someone else do the work before me...that's a bit asshole-ish I admit, but my family has a bad track-record with trying to restore cars.

That's one of the reasons why I bought a '70 Mustang coupe grocery-getter instead of a fastback. I knew that that wasn't one of the cars that people were probably going to go to great lengths to save, but I felt like it was worth saving. Now, I've got a car that's rarer than the fastbacks, because there just aren't too many '69-'70 coupes left.

Have you seen the "6th day" cars, the chevy pickup looked gaaaay.. and they wrecked a perfect caddy..

that movie sucked. Admittedly, at this point, the best you can hope for out of Schwarzenegger is a rehash of his BETTER movies, but that definitely wasn't one of them. Yeah, that truck looked like a huge piece of ass. And the damn caddy. Boo-hoo.

Sort of related: I just bought Christine on DVD yesterday, and did you know that they destroyed 22 perfect '58 Furies in the making of that movie? Doesn't that just make you homicidal? Goddamn, I hate hollywood.

At least Gone in 60 Seconds only trashed a couple junker '67 Mustangs. I know they wrecked two filming the jump and one in the crusher (that one didn't even have an engine or transmission in it at the time) but that's still too many.

the new one? Isn't that a camaro in the crusher? In the old one they crushed a Challenger, boohoo.

Well, ya gotta applaud the makers of "Vanishing Point" for how they handled the final scene. (Unless you're a Camaro fan that is...)

In the new Gone in 60 seconds, the car in the crusher was a 3rd gen firebird/camaro. Just looked up the relevant part in my Divx copy. No great loss, I guess.

That chase in the original Gi60S, with the tow-truck towing the Challenger was pretty cool in my opinion...It was very creative and original, and I don't think I've seen anything like it ever again.

Yeah, they crush a ragged-out 3rd-gen of some type, leaving just 204,385,035,656 to carry the torch. But then Eleanor supposedly ends up in the crusher at the end. Fun fact: the crappy-looking '67 Shelby that Kip presents Memphis at the end of the movie is actually the fastest Mustang used in the filming. It had a brand-new Ford Motorsport 351 crate engine in it.

wasn't even a real shelby.. just an old fastback with shelby panels. Oh yeah, I remember eleanor in the crusher now.

Actually, upon further inspection, they never showed eleanor getting crushed. She just got picked up by the crane and dropped into the crusher, but then they left the area. So maybe she survived.

But it got pretty damn mauled when they picked it up.

well, hell if a fury can be fixed of those injuries and worse (shit on dashboard) why can't a humble mustang?

By the way, that was, without a doubt, one of the coolest scenes in the history of film. Even though I know how they did it, it looked awesome.
