#39, It's something you do on the drums....they used to do it in stand-up comedy back in the day whenever the comedian would tell a joke. It goes "Da-dum CRASH".

One of the guys in my high school band used to play the same few lines from that Grease song "Summer Nights" on his Trombone to annoy the band director.
"Dum....da-dum....da-dum....da-da-da-da-dum.....da-dum....."
