It's a race car -- it comes by it's wing honestly.

Pardon me if I'm wrong...and I very well may be...but I usually figured that simply bolting a wing that looks like the kind you buy at Pep Boys to the flexible and movable trunklid isn't a very sound idea. While the rest of the car looks like it was built by professionals, that wing just doesn't seem to match up. The wing is certainly wide enough to be bolted on to the unit-body structure of the car on either side of the trunklid, I suppose, but, oh well. Doesn't a wing necessitate a rigid mounting?

#4, It is a nice car for a Ford, but the aluminum bolt-on wing kills it. At least with all that downforce the trunk lid will stay closed while it's racing. ;-)

I visited my wife's aunt in Mexico the other day, and she drive a 2003 Ford Mondeo, which happens to be the car this fake Jag is based on. I have to say, for a Ford it was quite nice, if a bit too VW like.

#6, Oh crap, the X-type is Mondeo derived? I went looking at those with my father over winter break (he was contemplating buying a car since he was uncertain if he'd have a company car with his new job) and I made the offhand comment that the engines probably came out of the Mondeo parts bin, just based on their specs. I was almost right, then.

#7, But it's based on the SECOND gen Mondeo...

The American Mercury Cougar and the Contour/Mystique were based on the first gen Mondeo

The Jaguar X-type is on a HEAVILY modified 2nd gen Mondeo platform... Jaguar installed an AWD system with a rear-wheel bias, and they did all the suspension tuning for the X-type, not Ford.

#7, It's a TERRIBLE thing really, For dengineered the car to be 4WD standard so as not to rape Jaguar's RWD hertiage. Than they go and make a FWD Europe only model because it's selling slowly. Because people see through the sham. Because it's crrrrap.

#8, Yes as I said, a 2003 Pass, er, Mondeo. Very VW clonish. Nice for a Ford, bad for a Jag.

I sat in one, and I wasn't terribly impressed. Jags are supposed to be luxury cars, but the ~$30K base model doesn't include a power passenger's seat and has cheap-looking trim? WTH?

#8, I wasn't implying that I thought it was directly based off the same Mondeo that gave birth to the Contour. I'm just unimpressed by the fact that not only did they take one of Ford Europe's most commonly-used power teams and put it in a Jag, but that they used the whole darn car. :-)

#12, Platform engineering is modern badge engineering. It will come back to haunt Ford and VW.

#13, Not if they do it well enough. I think it's a necessity. Developing a brand new car is very expensive.

Its not bad. The car could probably do with a different wing but it is a racecar and so it stays.
