#12, Selling out is always a detriment to the medium that sells out. The parent company universally sees the acquired medium as a cash grab, then drains it dry when their readership doesn't care much for the ensuing lack of passion that the medium starts to exude.
I've seen this happen time and time again. Websites, online games, independent music. Hell, even the originator of Slenderman single-handedly destroyed the collective mythos the internet had built up by copyrighting the character and letting Sony make that shitty movie out of him. |
