Escorts don't have the same charisma that a Gremlin does, nor are they V8/rear drive (most Gremlins where 6 cylinders, but some had V8s). So no, not an Escort.

"X" was just an appearance package, I think. I've seen 6 cylinder Gremlin "X"s. I believe the 304 V8 could be had in any Gremlin. I've heard something about the 401 being available in the early ones packing something like 360 horsepower, but I've never seen one.
