At such events it's the man not the machine.
Take me for example. I have the weakest and crappiest car around yet I still wasn't last on the two events I ran. And I was driving slowly. The trick was not to make any mistakes and it worked.

Turbo Familia's are deceptively quick. Looked at one, almost bought it, but the manual trannies are even weaker than Subaru ones, and that's saying something.

#2, Weird. Impreza STi gearboxes are strong enough to be used in group N rally cars if someone can't afford a dog box.

#3, But the engine/drivetrain is standard as well, is it not? Not too sure about Group N spec, but doesn't pretty much everything (except suspension maybe?) have to be production spec? I could be wrong here. Also, I don't really know too much about the strength of the newer STi's. All my experience with Subarus are early/mid 90's, my current '97 GTB handmedown is the newest Subaru I've tinkered with by quite a margin. But with the older Legacies/Wrxs, you risk blowing boxes with around 350/360 engine hp, which isn't THAT hard to extract.
