if you drive an expidition or excursion, you're AUTOMATICALLY a no-skill self-indulgent soccer mom bitch cell-phone using gas-guzzling GET YOUR FAT ASS OUT OF MY WAY weiner.

Hey! My mom has an expedition! And I'm appaled you'd make such a hasty and uneducated generalization about her! she doesn't use a cell phone! :-)

Not if you know how to drive. That's my primary criterion. I don't think it matters who did the work, but if you appreciate it and know how to drive it and do at least routine maintenance, I'd consider you a car guy.

In total volume, those camaros and mustangs cause a whole lot more wrecks than these sport trucks, just look in any junkyard, you won't see many lightnings. I drive a truck and just because they have power doesn't mean they'll wreck more. They have more mass and I totally understand the physics behind this, but sport trucks are going to be a small volume thing and won't be terrorizing the highways as much as you might think.

The thing is, Expeditions and Excursions were built to haul lots of people and lots of stuff. But every one I see has one, maybe two people in it. What the fuck is the point of THAT?

I'd like to see scouts make a return, it kind of defeats the purpose of having an suv if you can't upright it when you've turned it over rock climbing as if you could do that with an excursion in the first place. Isn't that thing just a glorified station wagon?

Soccor moms wanting to feel "safe" I hear that a lot, I like this car cause I feel safe in it. I feel the same way in mine, and it's a friggin' Accord! I know I'm safe cause I'm belted up and waiting for the other guy to make the mistake, I've avoided about 3 head-ons that way.

Safest vehicle in the world is one that can avoid the goddamn accident, I'd like to see an excursion avoid ANYTHING.

No, it's a minivan for guys who are too whipped to say no when their wife wants a "more practical" car and want to save face by not driving a Caravan. And I want Scouts back. I drove one off-road a couple days ago, and that thing is BADASS. That's what REAL offroaders drive, Scouts and old Broncos and Blazers, not huge-ass luxury SUVs.

I feel safe in my Mustang and Thunderbird, because they've got the power, handling and braking to avoid anything that comes my way, I've got the skill to use it, and they've got the safety gear to keep me alive if I botch things up.

Maybe I ought to get a wrecked explorer, or expedition, and show up at an off-road course with sawzalled-out fenders, that'd be a hoot!

Anyway, back to the sport truck thing, wouldn't you want trucks out on the road that could avoid accidents better than stock? It's the same reasoning for a sports car, only they aren't pushing 6500lbs around like a truck will.

As it stands, the sawzalled Chevette is a better offroaders than those fucking SUVs.

I generally feel safe in my eclipse, until I get tailgated by some monstro-SUV driven by a distracted soccer-mom who has the reaction times of my dead grandmother. Because my brakes are probably about as powerful as they'res, maybe more, but I weigh half as much. So I drop down, build the boost, and speed the fuck off so they will be a decent distance from me. It's really intimidating being surrounded on all sides by vehicles that weigh 2-3 times as much as mine and they have drum rear brakes...

they took the fenders off of a cherokee on the junkyard wars show and it did pretty well off-roading. It got beat out by a big old silverado that had ground clearance to start with and better suspension travel.

Amen Max, the biggest things you can do to ensure your safety behind the wheel are,

1. Know your limits
2. Know your car's limits
3. Buckle the Goddamned seatbelt, I've seen to many people die in 30 mph collisions

Good point, G-body (that's the Cutlass-Regal-Monte Carlo, right?) But even WITH equipment like that, a truck in the hands of a novice is more prone to rollovers, slower to brake and does more damage than a sports car.

I still can't believe that motorcyle powered dragster beat the 305 Olds-powered one, that was sick man, just sick
