... Er, only a 14.8? Maybe you should switch to a T25. On a 4G63 that is... ;)
Tee hee. Just busting balls. Although I'd think a 16G would be much more capable of lower times, but I'm not too keen on the 420A. : |

14.8??? exactly how much money did all this cost? wouldn`t it be cheaper to get a car that would actually be fast? |

When a stock GSX have run as low as a 14.5? (Granted they had beautiful conditions...)
Insurance would be the main cause (At least if I was to have some reason to buy a dog of an Eclipse). If you've had any tickets and moving to a GSX, which STOCK has 210, versus the GS which is 150. It's stuff like that that causes rates to go up, up, and away.
But I like to turn the wheel, so the advantage of lack of drivetrain power loss that a FWD car has is instantly lost when in turns.
Meh, whatever.

14.8? HAHA! He could have a new low 13 second Z28 for the amount he's dropped in that hunk of rice filled shit. |

Hi, this is my car....
The 14.8 is because I can't launch the car worth sh*t. I know that, and I accept that.
Other cars with the exact same set up run mid 13s all day. If I could manage to squeeze a 2.2 second 60' time out of it I would be close to 14 flat, nearing the 13 second range.
Lucifer, I've raced many modded Z28s on the road. I have yet to lose. I raced a late model SS camaro with another person in my car and beat the awesome non-riced V8 Super Car by about 2 car lengths up to 110mph from a rolling 30mph start. We talked afterwards.. he was a cool guy. Very interested in the car. I wish more domestic owners were like that.
The top end on the turbo 420A Eclipse/Talon is tremendous. 9.6:1 compression running 7psi on a Super 16G turbo (10cm turbine housing). The problem is that the car spins its wheels through all of 1st and 2nd, and through much of 3rd gear.
Mullet: Not to worry.. I also own a 91 TSi AWD and a 91 GSX. I know the power of the 4G63 well. |

nice car, seems like ya know your stuff, but u have to make a choice, race car or lux. if your serious about bettering your time, get lighter wheels and remove the sterio system.. just my opinion. |

Awesome car. Finally someone with a realistic idea of what his car is capable of and is not full or crap! (in other words, you are not trying to tell us you are running 10's in a street car.)
Well done!
BTW, 14.8 isn't bad at at all for a street car with a small engine. |

Uh, yes it is 500plus. Box-stock 4 cylinder Eclipse GSX's can run 15 flats all day, sometimes lower, sometimes a little higher (tenths). Eclipses can run over 350 horsepower with untouched internals. And that's fully streetable and daily driveable. |

my gst runs high 12s without nitrous, it's just a matter of a proper launch and turbo tuning. also boost, try reducing your parasitic loss with lighter wheels, underdrive pulleys and whatnot. while not necessarily improving your hp dramatically, more gets to the wheels, and it takes less to move the wheels. |

500plus: thanks for the compliments. They are rare, but always welcome.
Mullet: Yes its true that GSXs can run that fast. but this is Front wheel drive. you can't get in the 14s with a stock FWD eclipse. Show me one 14 second stock FWD DSM and I will be very impressed.
On top of that, this car still costs less than a stock 99 GS-T and already has a large 16G, huge FMIC, 3" exhaust, 2.25" metal IC pipes, exhaust mani, upgraded fuel pump, BOV, FPR, gauges, etc etc.
I am not getting into a 420A vs. 4G63 fight right now. I am so sick of it. |

Um, I wasn't TRYING to get in an arguement. I'm just dissagreeing with 500plus who thinks that all four bangers are 127 horsepower Civics. |

It is a nice car, and I like that you added a turbo to a car that badly needs one. The wheel's aren't really to my taste, but to each their own. I like that you're honest about your weaknesses (launching) rather than trying to lie and subtract a second or two just to impress people. BTW, i've seen people run (very) high 14s (ie 14.9) in GSTs with nothing other than wider drag radials in front, they just dumped the clutch at absurdly high rpm. But seriously, investing in a set (or even just pair) of lighter and smaller wheels will improve you're et more than you might think. The chromes are fine on the street, but it really helps the old ego to have a timeslip that says 12.Something or even 13.Low something, which is entirely possible with your setup. Also, you might want to try dumping the clutch at about 4000rpm in second, depending on your tires. I wouldn't do it too much, depending on your clutch and transaxle, but it would help your 60' time. |

Finally, you didn't mention suspension setup. If you want to improve your launch and wheelspin, spring for adjustable shocks/struts. Konis are the best, but they run rather expensive. By setting the rears to the stiffest setting available, you will reduce weight transfer, which will help your launch. But you probably know most of this. |

Don't worry, he's not claiming a 2.5sec 0-60. That's a 2.5 second 60-foot time at a dragstrip, which is nothing to write home about. |

Somebody can't drive, because that Camaro has got a least a good second on you in the quarter. And that's being conservative.... |

Thought I would give an update....
I sold this car in January and bought a '91 Talon TSi AWD. This GS has since been totalled. The guy I sold it to moved the gauges behind the steering wheel, and in order to see them you would have to look down quite far from the road. He ran over a curb going about 50 and ripped the front end apart. =(
Oh well. I got my new car, and I am quite happy with it. It sucks that a '99 turbo Eclipse GS with 30,000 miles is now rusting in a junkyard. |
